Do You Want More Comments For Your Blog?

Some Wordpress blogging tips for the day.
If you want to receive more comments for your blog, please do the following two things.

1) Remove the evil nofollow attribute from your comments

2) Show top commentators by displaying their names (linked back to their website). See my right side bar for top commentators.

Thankfully, these two can be done easily by plugins. All you have to do is download them into your plugins folder and activate them. No other configurations are required.

Removing Nofollow From Comments

The dofollow plugin for Wordpress allows you to remove nofollow from your comments. All you have to do is to activate the plugin.

Top Commentators

Now if you display the top commentators on your sidebar with a link back to their websites. That will greatly increase encourage more discussion from your readers. Although by default no configuration is required, you might want to edit the php file and set the frequency of the counter reset and number of commentators to show.

For my blog setting, the top commentators comment counter will reset on a monthly basis and it will show the top 10 commentators.

This is great advice! I recently did this with a plug in by FiddyP and it also adds in the commenters last post on their site. I agree with giving commenting people a free plug definitely encourages them to comment and come back when people respond to their comments. ;)

Good post. dofollow is much better and also benefits everyone. I have my latest comments in the sidebar and this also helps to drive traffic which leads to more comments.

It’s important when visiting a page, even if just passing by, to leave your mark :)

Its ironic that many bloggers talk about this but then they actually use no follow I have seen many blogs leeching off the dofollow movement claiming to be dofollow sites but actually use nofollow, they are worse than the comment spammers in my eyes.

For this blog, I have set meta name=”robots” content=”index, follow”

The comments are also set to dofollow. Removing the evil nofollow.
