Advantages Of Article Marketing

Starting an online business is a very large undertaking. The key to making it work for you is getting your name out there and educating your target audience about your product or service. Hundreds of new businesses are popping up every day on the Internet. Your goal is to get yours noticed above everyone else’s. So, how do you do that?

Article marketing offers many advantages for the online business owner. Some of these include:

* The ability to attract search engines and increase your site’s marketability. Search engines determine the value of your site by the number of useful links pointing to it. This is how your site climbs positions in the search engine rankings.

* Promotion through article directories dramatically increases traffic to your website. Your articles are used by other websites, printed in e-zines and featured in newsletters.

* A free method of reaching thousands of buyers interested in the type of product or service you are offering. Once you promote your marketing article on the relevant directories, you are finished with that part of your marketing. The traffic developed through the article directories will continue to grow and you won’t have to do anything else with that article.

* The ability to get many links posted on other sites. Every time a link to your marketing article is posted on another site, you gain the opportunity to reach all of that site’s visitors as prospective customers.

Promote and publish informational articles about your product or service and gain the trust of potential buyers. Through article marketing you have the ability to become an authority on your topic of interest.

How it Works

Online article marketing provides directory publishers with free content. It also provides web-based businesses with free advertising. Promotional articles are written to target certain niche markets. They are then distributed to directories that focus on those markets. This provides business owners with a ready-made audience that already has an interest in the topic.

Readers are allowed to reprint articles from the directories, provided they include the original author’s information box. The result is that your article is now posted on another website, and you gain that site’s traffic.

What makes a good marketing article? Every marketing article must contain key elements. These are:

* Original content

* Quality content

* Relevant keywords

* Marketability to high traffic directories

* Author information leading the visitor to your site

It costs you nothing to submit your articles to these article directories. This means free advertising for your website. It also means increased traffic to your website.

You may also choose to have someone else write your articles for you. For a minimal fee, you can hire a company or individual to create the content for your marketing articles. Using this method, you have invested little financially and have reduced the time you must dedicate to your marketing.

Your Author’s Information Box

A few essential items must be included in the author information box of your marketing article. The following items attract the reader to your site.

* Your name

* A valid link to your website

* USP (Unique Selling Proposition): What makes you and your product or service different from all others?

* A call to action in which you prompt the reader to go to your website

You may choose to include these options as well:

* Your contact information

* A free report: Just as you like free advertising, your customers like to get something free for visiting your site.

* An address to your free E-zine subscription: Offering a free E-zine is another method of attracting potential buyers and gaining credibility in your area of expertise.

One of the most effective tools for promotion and advertising available to you as an Internet business owner is the use of article marketing. With this tool, you can attract your target audience to your website and convince them to purchase your product or service.

List Building - How To Build A List From Scratch

List building is the most important task of all online businesses. Once your list is properly built, your business can thrive and achieve the sales you dream of. If you have no list at the moment, then you need to start now.

Follow the steps laid out here to build a responsive list.

1. Create Free Content

Your aim is to have people sign up to your opt-in form on your website. So you need to give them a reason for doing so. The best thing to do is create a report for them as a gift for signing up to your newsletter.

This can be a PDF report with 10 pages or more, or an email series delivering a 10 part lesson on a certain topic your visitors are interested in.

If you absolutely struggle with writing content on your niche, then purchase 3 master resale rights products which you can modify and add your name to them. Offer these 3 books as a gift for signing up to your list.

The content which the subscribers are signing up for, has to be valuable. You also need to give the subscribers the rights to pass these gifts to other friends or their lists if needed.

If the content is good, then your subscribers will like and trust you. People tend to buy from people they like and trust.

When they pass the content to their friends or list, you have built more publicity for yourself and reach out to more prospects.

2. Create An Opt-in Page

Now you need to create an opt-in page where people can sign up for your newsletter. This is the page where you get your subscribers. You need to make sure that you stress the benefits of signing up to your newsletter and the gifts they receive for signing up.

If you don’t have skills in creating an opt-in page, then I suggest you to visit freelance websites such as Scriptlance and Elance and pay around $30 to set one up for you quickly. Give them the headline and copy of the opt-in page and ask them to help to design a clean webpage displaying this. Alternatively, you can place the opt-in page on your blog which will appear in all your posts.

You need to look at the final webpage and ask if you yourself will sign up to the list after seeing the benefits of subscribing.

3. Get A Web Hosting And Autoresponder Account

I would advise you to choose a respectable paid web hosting account with no adverts and good support service.

To capture the email addresses you need to subscribe to an autoresponder service. Choose one which is reliable, used by successful people in your field and has many functions a standard autoresponder has such as tracking email which are opened and high deliverability rates.

Don’t try and save money by choosing a cheap autoresponder service. You rely on this service for a critical part of your business.

4. Writing The Email Series

Once the visitor has opted in, your autoresponder should start to send them messages periodically for about a month or two. With these emails, you’ll need to remind them of the download link and also provide them with good content at least twice a week. After a month, you can then send out a promotion. This is how you build a relationship with the list. There’s no point in having a list if they don’t like and ignore you.

5. Driving Traffic To Your Opt-In Page

Now that everything is setup, all you need to do now is to drive traffic to that opt-in page. Once the visitors see the gift you are offering them to sign up, they should opt in.

One of the ways you can drive traffic to a website is to write articles and distribute them. There’s no-cost in writing articles just the time spend writing it and submitting it to ezine directories and newsletter publishers.

You can also drive traffic by posting to forums with your signature advertising your opt-in page. There are many other ways which are too detailed to discuss here. You need to continuously learn how to drive traffic to your opt-in page. But right now you have all the knowledge to start getting ready to build your list.

You can see an example of this list building technique where a gift is offered for people signing up for the newsletter at http://www.trafficbeast.com

New Approaches To Email Marketing Without Spamming

It does not matter whether you are running a small online business or a local eatery, your budget is limited and your challenge is to keep getting new customers for growth and turn your existing customers into repeat buyers for business sustainability.

You can use a variety of advertising options depending on your budget. Email marketing is a low cost solution that you must use regardless of any other methods you pursue. However, if you don’t know how to start an email marketing campaign in a right way, you soon will be become the biggest spammer in the town and may lose everything you have due hate and litigation.

Start with email addresses you have in your existing contact list. Explain them what you are up to and emphasis the benefits your business provides to ordinary folks. Don’t use any sales pitch. It should be informational with the emphasis on benefits. Keep it short because people don’t have time to read long emails. Also, encourage them to spread the news to their contacts.

As customers start coming to your establishments, get their emails and tell them what you intend to do with the email. Make a commitment to your customers not to sell their emails to third parties or spam their inbox every day with.

Start with a newsletter to share your expertise and insights. For example, if your business is catering to the lunch crowd, start talking to about nutrition, recipes, how to save money on lunch, etc. Forget how you are going to benefits from the newsletter. Take it as mission to help others by giving good information.

Talk to your family and friends to solicit tips and ideas for your newsletter. Form a network with other related businesses. For example, if you offer Greek foods, bring in businesses that offer Chinese, Italian, and even Greek foods. Talk about benefits of Italian pasta in your newsletters and suggest some delicious dishes from your friend’s Chinese restaurant.

Once your customer start realizing that the newsletter is not meant to spam their inboxes by incessantly promoting your business, they will start trusting you and your business. You will be able to grab their precious attention. We are moving towards the attention economy where it will become extremely difficult to get people’s attention by traditional advertising.

Because you make a commitment to your customers not to sell their email addresses, as a principle, you also should not buy email addresses from a third party. Moreover, because you don’t know how the third party has obtained the addresses that you are going to buy, you may as well be buying emails obtained without the owners’ consents. Build your own email list slowly and you will get the reward in the long run.

Stick to a monthly schedule of sending your newsletters to your subscribed list. You do more often, you lose your recipients attention and they more likely to drag it to their trash folder. Sporadic and irregular campaigns will not generate interests and anticipation.

If you don’t have time to create a newsletter regularly, outsource the activity to a third party with strict guidelines. Engage your kids to find information and write articles and tidbits for your newsletter and compensate them. Go to your local community college and hire somebody for researching and writing your articles and creating the newsletter.

The email marketing should be all about connecting with your customers and building trusts. It should provide value to your customers. Once you build trusts, your customers will be your fans and help spread your business virally.

Safe UK Shopping On The Internet

Online shopping is becoming one of the easiest ways to buy almost anything you want, when you want. Unlike going to your local highstreet, you can shop at any time, day or night without leaving home. All you need is a credit card. So if you have never shopped online before, but you would like to try, I have put together these shopping tips to help you on your way.

Check To See If The Site Is Secure

When shopping online always make sure, before giving out any of your credit or debit card details, whether the company has secure payment. You will know if that a site is secure when you see an intact padlock on your browser. This means you are on a site that is using SSL to encrypt your personal information while it is going from your PC to the website operator’s system, so that it cannot be read by anyone intercepting it. Also check that the http:// address is written as https:// - the ’s’ standing for secure.

Check For Contact Address

All online traders must give their name and geographical address, not just a PO Box number or email address. Do not shop at any stores that fail to provide this information.

Pay By Credit Card

Paying buy credit card will give you the added protection for any good whose value is between £100 and £30,000. This is because your credit card issuer becomes jointly responsible for the goods you buy. If the goods are delivered damaged or you have problems receiving a refund, the credit card company will help you.

Check Your Monthly Credit Card Statements

Check your monthly credit card statements for any payments made over the internet. You need to be aware that some company names which appear on your statement may be different from their website.

Returns Policy

Before purchasing, check the returns policy of the website. Find out who pays the returns postage and if they have come from abroad, make sure their is no hefty bill to return goods. Refunds must be made within 30 days.

Postage And Delivery

Look out for high postage rates and hidden cost like VAT or other duty payable, especially if the goods are being sent from abroad. Remember that goods being sent from abroad take longer to deliver, check with the trader to see how long this will take. If no deilvery date has been agreed, delivery must take place within 30 days. Goods and services ordered from the UK and European Countries will be covered by the ‘Distance Selling Regulations’.

Shop Around

Always shop around for the best deals. The price of goods online can vary to a large degree depending on the product. In most cases you are entitled to a 7 working day cancellation period if you change your mind.

Keep A Record

Always keep a record of anything ordered online, print out the order and keep the terms and conditions that appear on the website just in case of any problems or disputes later on.

Page Length For Search Engines

You’ve decided to create content for your web pages, but aren’t sure how many words each page should have to ensure that search engines and visitors come back often. It’s a dilemma that many web site owners face. They don’t want to have too little words, but they don’t want to have too many words, either. It’s a delicate balance that every web site owner has to know in order to have a site that is search engine optimized and visitor friendly. In this newsletter, we will discuss the appropriate length for pages, and the reason why your pages should adhere to this length requirement.

What is a good length for pages?

Ideally, each page should have at least 700 words, but no more than 1500 words. Anything less than 700 words and search engine spiders might just skip over your site entirely; anything more than 1500 and spiders won’t take the time to search through the content for keywords.

When I write the content, what should I strive to do?

You should strive to write content that is entertaining and easy to read. Don’t drone on and on just to meet the 700 word requirement. Find things to talk about that are relevant to your site and come up with ways to say them in a concise manner. Remember that search engine bots aren’t the only thing to come to your site—people are also coming to your site and they will want to read content that makes them want to visit again. Aim to please them first, then the search engine bots.

How do I please search engine bots?

Pleasing search engine bots is as simple as having 700+ words of content and some keywords sprinkled into your content. Keywords are words that the search engine bots immediately spot and use to figure out how to rank your site. In a document of 700 words, you’ll want to have at least 7 keywords, but preferably around 21, throughout your content. When using keywords, make sure to sprinkle them naturally throughout the document so that you do not distract your reader from what the content is about.

Why should I have pages with content between 700 and 1500 words?

The reasons for this are simple. Having pages with content of 700-1500 words will please visitors and search engine spiders. Pleasing both will help your site attract more traffic and become successful.

Visitors who come to your site want to see useful content. If your content is short, chances are, it’s not very useful to visitors. Good content is content that is worthwhile to read and tells the visitor something they don’t already know. It must be packed with information and details. Few can accomplish this in less than 700 words, which is why it is often necessary to use that many words.

However, it is also important not to be too wordy with your content. People want to be able to quickly get the content they need. They don’t want to read through hundreds of words of fluff in order to get what they came for. So be concise and try to make sure your content doesn’t go over 1500 words.

Spiders who come to your site want to have a good amount of content to “chew” on. That is, they want to have enough content to report back to the search engine database. Less than 700 words really isn’t enough content for a spider to bring back to a search engine database, so spiders tend to ignore pages with under 700 words.

Spiders, much like human visitors, also don’t like pages with excessive amounts of words. Pages with 1500 words are usually a big turnoff to spiders, and even if a spider does visit the page, chances are they won’t report the contents of the page back to the search engine database for which they work. That is why you must strive to be concise not just for human visitors, but for the robot(spider) visitors as well.

If you are able to limit your pages to between 700 and 1500 words, you will do well with human visitors and search engine spiders. That’s the goal of every web site owner and should be your goal as well.

P.S. Writing content between 700-1500 words is easy as long as you come up with good content to write about and try to be as concise as possible. It’s just that easy!

Finding Available Domain Names

Domain names are not all taken yet. Finding available domain names which are good, striking or have the potential to be valuable can be hard though.

With all words in the dictionary now already registered by speculators (most without accompanying web sites, of course) you will not be able to buy a ’single word’ domain unless the owner is willing to sell, or unless it is a deliberate misspelling of another word. You are not going to get pizza.com, but how about pizzzza.com, or peatsa.com? You get the idea, but a surprising number of such contrived names will also be already registered. Most people are now well aware that domain names are big business, and that acquiring one great name could set you up for life.

So, how do you find or create a good, available domain? You have several options here. You could combine two or more words, based on the subject of the web site you want to create – latest-insurance-leads.com. Alternatively, you could simply make up a word which ’sounds’ good – think of how many of the top sites have nonsense domains like yahoo, kazaa, bebo.

Other options which enterprising people are using include registering a familiar geographical name, registering a short phrase from a song lyric, or simply using their main site subject combined with a descriptor like mall, store, guide, directory, source, services, solutions, media, lounge, fan, tracker and so on. Check the domain auction sites for more examples.

One of the most interesting things you can do is to look at the prices which domains actually sold for on auction sites, and try to work out why they are worth what was paid. Here are some examples – GoMo recently sold for $11,000, automobileinsurancequote.com for $6,500 and wfk.com for $8,800. While the automobile insurance related domain’s value is obvious, what about the other two meaningless domains? What they have in common is their shortness. While ALL the three-letter combinations of the alphabet are now registered (believe it or not) some four letter ones may not yet be. In the domain name industry, less is really more.

Another interesting insight can be taken from the recent sale of the name carbonless.com for $25,000. Even five years ago, such a name would have been worthless, but with the current interest in sustainable living, this name has become a valuable property. If you can anticipate a trend like this, you could register an available domain name for $10 and wait until it becomes an asset.

If you want to try another option, country-based suffixes like .us, .uk, .ca and so on have not been taken up and registered by speculators to the extent that .coms have. If your local country extension would suit your market, check if shorter names are still available for you to buy.

What about actually checking the available domain names – exactly how do you do this? Simply visit a domain name registrar and use their search to see if the name you want is still free. They will be delighted to register it for you.

Got a domain name idea? To see which domain registrar we use, and to check if the domain name you want is still available, go to my page - available domain names . Dee Buteland writes about domain names, registering them, and making money from domains.

Beware Of The Online Business Minefield

“Thar’s gold in them thar hills,” was proclaimed around the world in 1849, when gold was discovered in the hills of northern California.

More than 100,000 people descended upon California to find their own wealth in the hills and the streams of California. Fast-forward 150 years, and people are saying the same thing about the Internet today.

“Thar is gold in them thar web pages,” for the person who doesn’t get their clock cleaned by the snake oil salesmen of the Internet.

Early Victors in the Online Business Success Story

In 1994, Stanford students Jerry Yang and David Filo created the Yahoo web directory. One year later, they co-founded Yahoo, Inc., which remains one of the largest, most profitable websites on the Internet today.

In 1998, Stanford students Larry Page and Sergey Brin created and launched the Google search engine, the largest and most popular search company on the Internet today.

In 2005, three former PayPal employees joined forces to create YouTube. The three founders of YouTube were Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Only 21 months after the launch of YouTube, Google purchased the website for $1.65 billion in Google stock.

One Does Not Have to be “On Leave from the Stanford Ph.D. Program”

It’s amazing when you look at the biographies of the Who’s Who in Internet business startup success. Most everyone on the list has as part of his or her biography, “currently on a leave of absence from Stanford’s … Ph.D. program.”

This reference is actually an inside joke, pointing to the fact that nearly all of these people dropped out of college to start their Internet businesses.

The founders of Yahoo, Google and Apple were all college dropouts. The founders of YouTube were simply paid staff of PayPal before striking out on their own with YouTube.

The point is that if college dropouts can make it online, then we can too, if we only choose to learn from those who came before us.

Creating Online Business Success Today

There are many companies online offering business-building services to others. Some are good, some are bad, and others may be good, and yet, they may not be the right service providers for your company.

Take for example the Google AdWords pay-per-click advertising system. Millionaires have been made through the Google AdWords system.

Just to put this into perspective, through June of 2007, eBay had been spending $25 million every quarter with Google AdWords.

When major businesses spend $100 million per year in advertising with one advertiser, you can believe that the company is making that much back and more from the advertising provider.

It had been estimated that Google was delivering 12% of eBay’s traffic, which is a very sound investment, since eBay generated $7.67 billion in revenues in 2007.

In theory, eBay was earning nearly $920 million per year from its $100 million investment into Google’s AdWords advertising model. That is a very sound profit indeed.

For Every Online Success, There Are Dozens of Failures

Not all of us will create the next Yahoo, Google, eBay or Amazon. But, good money can be made online if you don’t fall into the traps where many before you have fallen.

AdWords is a powerful advertising model. It can make millionaires and it does every year.

But the thing is that AdWords may not be the right advertising model for you to follow. It may not be the right advertising for you now and it may not be right for you ever.

If you understand that, it is less likely that you will fall into the poor house using Google AdWords.

Unfortunately, too many people have mortgaged their homes and driven themselves into bankruptcy using Google AdWords and other online companies to promote their online businesses.

One Case Study … A Man Almost Bankrupt

I know of one person who threw tons of money into advertising, only to go $100,000 into debt, because he did not properly track his advertising costs and ROI (return-on-investment). In effect, he was spending $1.10 to get one person to his website, and he was getting one sale for every 200 people that visited his website.

So, he spent $220 to get one sale valued at $45. As you can imagine, he just went deeper and deeper into debt until one day he woke up and realized that he was on the road to ruin.

Had he properly tracked his advertising and ROI from the beginning, he could have improved his AdWords performance, lowering his adverting costs.

At the same time, he could have adjusted his sales copy and landing pages to try to turn a bad situation better and increase his sales.

If he could have improved his sales conversion rate to get five times as many sales (from half a percent conversion to two-and-a-half percent conversion), then his situation would have totally changed and he would have created mass profits.

Website owners can achieve improvements like these, using qualified business | marketing coaches and testing strategic improvements, until they get the right “formula”.

Deep Pockets Are Not the Solution, But Wise Choices Are

First and foremost, a business must design itself to make a profit on its activities.

I know people who have developed businesses online that did well financially in the sales column, but the business owner failed in his quest to turn that income into a profit.

Imagine being the website owner who generated his first $120,000 year and then nearly went under because his prices were too low for the kind of service being offered.

After having been a successful sole proprietor online for five years, my friend said that his first six-figure year nearly put him out of business. He is just now beginning to recover financially from his mistakes, 18 months later.

We Can’t Know Everything, Especially in Today’s Complicated World

When starting an online business, there are people who have been down the road you are getting ready to travel. They know where the potholes are in the road and they know where the landmines are buried.

To add a person of this caliber to your contact list could mean the difference between success and failure online.

It is a real added benefit for online business people to have someone to turn to for advice, regarding how to overcome the hurdles they may face in their online business.

We might have the basics covered, but there is always going to be a time when the experiences of others can help light the path in front of us.

Personal Business | Marketing Mentors Could Help You Avoid The Landmines

A good business mentor or coach is an invaluable asset for many online businesses today. After all, as individual business owners, we can’t be expected to know everything we need to know about running our online businesses.

There are * affordable * business mentors and marketing coaches offering their services to online business owners.

What if you could benefit from their experiences — both good and bad — without having to spend the money and the time they did?

Think of their services as being like an insurance policy, helping ensure your success.

Over my many years online, I have learned a lot from the school of hard knocks.

After having gone through SEO training and AdWords Professional training, one of my SEO coaches told me that people should never invest in Search Engine Optimization, until after they have spent six months doing another important task.

By utilizing that one very important piece of information, I was able to stop wasting my limited advertising resources and to start making a profit more quickly.

That solution and more are provided in my Free Online Business Success and Marketing Course, available at my website. id: 2m swm 001 08.04.21

Internet Marketing – Resting On Residuals

Is there ever a time when you rest on the residuals of your business? Some try and some are never satisfied with the result.

Country music icon Dolly Parton fought back in 2008. It had been nearly twenty years since she had found success on mainstream country charts. She never stopped recording and found success in bluegrass music and a few guest appearances on Miley Cyrus’ Disney series, Hannah Montana and other shows. Some say she should be happy with that.

After all, Dolly had taken her success and developed a successful theme parked named after her. She had shows she performed and fans that continued to beg for more music. However, in her early sixties Dolly looked to modern technology to bring her mainstream career out of the closet.

She developed her own label and hired a half dozen promotions experts to get her new music out to the people. The initial push must have worked, because her album “Backwoods Barbie” climbed to the number 2 position on the country charts in its first 2 weeks of release.

Reports indicate she views this effort as an investment in herself.

While other artists seemed content to live off the residuals of a career that’s in the past Dolly was determined to reach for something more.

It takes a brave individual to follow a hard path and try something new when it would be easier to take what life has given you and make due with the remnants of past successes.

From what I understand professional golfer Tiger Woods has used three different golf swings since entering the ranks of professional. Wouldn’t it have been easier to just settle on one and hope for the best?

Tiger’s win/loss record speaks for itself. By wrestling with a constant desire to improve he has – in fact – improved.

These are two great stories designed to illustrate why learning and using new marketing skills online is so valuable.

It is probable that you could find one or two marketing strategies that work and end up with some success. That’s the point when it becomes very easy to sit back and rest on the residuals. This is an act of allowing income to trickle in without pushing the boundaries.

What if, just when you are finding success, you pushed for an additional marketing strategy to add to your line up? What if you continued to build on your success instead of assuming that your revenue stream is good enough?

I’m not advocating discontentment, but I am discouraging the idea of disengaging.

When you decide to rest on your residuals it is a bit like that old weird uncle we all have that allows his house to fall part one piece at a time. He may recognize there are issues, but as long as he puts a bucket in the right place to catch the rainwater, and as long as he doesn’t step on certain floorboards he might get by without making any repairs.

Your business could be coming apart at the seams and you may be allowing other businesses to siphon existing customers simply because you are reluctant to move past former successes to the hard work of success yet to be.

Is there life left in your business? Can you breathe new life into it? Are you willing to make a new run at success?

Blaze on.
